"On The Edge"
"On The Edge"

The moment I saw this beautiful composition by photographer Frances McDermott, I was struck by its relevance to the inner and outer world we are currently experiencing on Earth.

“On The Edge”

With the fragility of a balanced egg, humanity stands on the edge of something significant. Do we survive the chaos, war, famine, and hatred that are evident in every corner of society? Will compassion for our fellow man make a comeback in a society fixated on money and power? Breath-holding has become a daily breathing plan for most people around the world. We appear to be hanging on by a thread.

The egg. It looks fragile, but it packs a powerhouse of ingredients, a complete food group consisting of all the protein, fats, water, carbohydrates, and nutrients sufficient to produce the animal from which it came. Its shell may appear fragile, but when positioned vertically, a chicken’s egg was found to have the compressive strength of 100 pounds; the ostrich egg has 1000 pounds. Imagine the distributed weight eggs could hold when placed upright, side-by-side, in multiple rows!

Now, imagine the weight we humans can hold when we stand shoulder to shoulder. Imagine the strength of unified compassion. Unified purpose. We are not one egg standing alone. We are brown, white, green, and speckled eggs. We are stronger than we think. Everything we need is already within each of us. Go inside and find that strength. Use it to nurture your family, distribute compassion, reduce judgment, and look out for your neighbor. Create moments of joy and love wherever you can. Dance, paint, read inspirational books, visit art museums, watch baseball games, and play with children.  Living a life of joy in a world of chaos is a contagious and lofty goal designed to keep the vibrational energy of the planet from sinking into a negative abyss. Don’t let fear be your emotion. It will crack you like a sideways egg.

Stand tall and surround yourself with love and purpose. Be as strong as an egg. Namaste.
